Sokoto: NAOWA presents cash, food items, clothes to Army widows, others

Nigeria Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) has donated food items, clothes as well as cash to no fewer than 212 widows of Nigerian soldiers and officers who died as a result of insurgency in the country.

The National President of NAOWA and wife of Chief of Army Staff Mrs Salamatu Farouk Yahaya who made the presentation on Tuesday at Ginginya Barracks, Sokoto, also extended the same gesture to a community close to the barracks

Speaking during the presentation of the items, she urged the widows to be strong and courageous for the sake of their children.

“I would like to encourage you to be strong and courageous and engage in positive ventures that would create a better life for you and your children in the future she added.

She enjoined them to enrol for skill acquisition programs, so as to help them fit in the society in due time to avoid the sorrow and pain of the absence of their dear ones.

“Please accept the token presentation of various items and use them judiciously as we hope to come up with more programmes of mutual benefit she stated.

Tribune Online gathered that the various items donated include, rice, millet, vegetable oil and cloths.

In a related development, the wife of the Chief of Army Staff Salamatu Farouk Yahaya donated food items and a sum of five hundred thousand naira N500,000 to the Nigerian Army, Soldier’s Wives Association (NASWA) stressing she was elated for the warm welcome given to her.

She also visited Luggatsara, the host community of Ginginya Barrack Sokoto where she donated food items to the people of the community.

As part of the activities for her visit, she laid a groundbreaking foundation of 6 classrooms and 2 staff rooms for the expansion of NAOWA Nursery and Primary School at Ginginya Barracks, Sokoto.

At the event, Mrs Farouk said education is the key to success hence a need to invest in it.

She further disclosed that NAOWA is a non-profit organisation saying the objectives of the organisation is to sustain the legacy and tenet of unity in the Nigeria Army Barracks.

Speaking, the wife of General Officer Command (GOC) and chairperson NAOWA 8 Division Mrs Gloria Bassey Uwen thanked Mrs Farouk for the visit.

She explained that as new Division the NAOWA chapter has infrastructural challenges soliciting the assistant of the National headquarters.

Earlier the wife of the Chief of Army Staff paid a courtesy on Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

She intimated the governor that she is in the state to thank him for the good things he has done for NAOWA in the state.

“I was told you built 3 classrooms at NAOWA Nursery and Primary School stressing that she is soliciting more assistance in the area of infrastructure in the school.

Responding Tambuwal thanked her for the visit saying the visit is a homecoming

Tambuwal added that when they heard the news of Yahaya appointment as the Chief of Army Staff, that he personally thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing their son.

He said Yahaya merited the appointment stressing that based on his track records he was not surprised.

He also said the people of the state are praying for him to succeed saying the issue of insecurity in the country by God’s grace would soon be a thing of the past.

Mrs Salamatu Farouk also paid a courtesy call on Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III as well as the wife of the governor, Mrs Maryam Aminu Waziri Tambuwal
