Sokoto Deputy Governor leads 50-member task force on polio

The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Idris Muhammad Gobir, was announced on Tuesday as the chairman of a fifty-member task force on polio eradication in Sokoto State.

The state governor, Ahmed Aliyu, inaugurated the State Immunization and PHC MoU task force with a renewed commitment to ensuring a polio-free state.

Aliyu emphasized that healthcare delivery is an area of great importance that will receive the utmost attention from his administration. He expressed concern over the rejection of oral vaccines and inadequate routine immunization in the state and vowed to change this situation.

“Improving effective healthcare services is part of our 9-point agenda aimed at making healthcare not only affordable but accessible to all,” Aliyu stated.

“This administration is determined to provide all the necessary support and assistance to make our state polio-free,” he added.

A statement signed by the Governor’s spokesman, Abubakar Bawa, indicated that the governor pledged to revive the policies and strategies implemented during the Wamakko administration to achieve effective healthcare delivery, particularly in polio eradication.

The Governor urged the committee to work diligently to ensure that no child between the ages of 0-5 is left unimmunized.

He also called on them to conduct adequate sensitisation campaigns among parents and guardians to emphasize the importance of vaccinating their children.
