Smoking and pregnancy

Published by

I am a 30-year-old lady who has been smoking for the past ten years. I am now pregnant with my first baby. I want to know if I can continue smoking even if at a reduced level. Kindly advice.

Smoking during pregnancy can cause a baby to be born too early or to have low birth weight—making it more likely the baby will be sick and have to stay in the hospital longer. A few babies may even die. Smoking during and after pregnancy is a risk factor of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). It is for these reasons that women who smoke are usually advised to stop smoking during pregnancy
