Sit-at-home holds sway in Enugu on Monday

Enugu, the Enugu state capital and other parts of Enugu State remain locked down in compliance or submission to the Sit-At-Order earlier put in place the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), last August 9, 2021, to press for the release of its detained leader,Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from DSS cell.

The protest had been reportedly called off by the DOS of IPOB prior to the Anambra governorship election .
However,a splinter group loyal to self styled Apostle of Nnamdi Kanu on Biafran restoration,Bar Ekpa Simon Njoku felt otherwise and is insisting on the protest until Kanu is unconditionally released from DSS captivity.

Ohanaeze and other groups had made overtures to the FG for Kanu’s release and or expeditious trials to no avail.
Consequently the protest persists not only Mondays but also days of Kanu’s appearance in the Abuja court.

All business activities including the ongoing 33rd Enugu International Trade Fair and banking are shut while offices, schools and public places are under lock and key.

The expressways as well as the city streets are all bereft of the usual vehicular traffic.

Motorized mixed patrols were noticed on the streets but there has been no reports of any violence.

Black market fuel sellers were seen making brisk business selling fuel at high prices just as some POS operators in the inner streets fill in the gaps of the banks, serving withdrawers.

The recent recancellation of the exercise by IPOB following their recent engagement with Governor Chukwuma Soludo has not affected the situation here though it may have had some effect in Anambra.
