Shun indecent dressing, UNIZIK VC cautions students

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Esimone, FAS has reiterated the zero-tolerance stance of his administration on indecent dressing among students in the University.

Professor Esimone restated this at the unveiling of the Dress code caution billboards mounted at strategic points within and outside the University campus, on Friday.

According to him, the institution is highly concerned with moulding its students on the right path. He maintained that it is the core responsibility of the University to train its students not just in learning but equally in character.

In his words, “The University has always maintained zero tolerance for indecent dressing not just among students but equally among members of staff. It is always said that you are addressed by the way you are dressed. We want the best for students and want them to be better individuals in society.

”I wish to commend members of the Vice-Chancellor’s Dress Code Committee led by Dr. Joyce Onyali for their doggedness and innovative mindset. It is one thing to give a mandate and another thing to see people have the right mindset to execute such a mandate. The University belongs to every one of us here hence when there is something needful to be done, we should learn to devise innovative ways to get the work done. We should always be committed to doing our best and building bridges for a better University.

“I strongly commend the committee who, with little or no financial support from the University, reached out to good-spirited individuals to get these gigantic billboards installed across the institution’s premises. I also commend Mr. Toluwani David, a lecturer in Fine and Applied Arts and his team for their uncommon show of commitment especially in the area of content creation which they did pro bono.”

Prof. Esimone further assured of his continued support to the committee in enforcing decent dressing among members of the University committee.

In her remarks, the Chairperson of the Committee, Dr. Onyali expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for entrusting such vital responsibility to her team. She averred that the team will not just rely on the billboards in carrying out their responsibility but have marshalled out plans in enforcing decent dressing on the University’s campuses.
