Several people were feared dead in a communal clash in the troubled Bonta-Ukpute areas in Benue State.
Several houses were also reported burnt during the crisis.
The Tribune Online learnt that some militias from Bonta allegedly invaded the Ochoro community, on Tuesday, and attacked the residents.
It was reliably gathered that Igede people were the inhabitants of the Ochoro community but situated in Konshisha local government.
Local sources said, “Over 30 women and kids were massacred and several houses razed, adding, “Ochoro is a neighbouring community of Bonta and Ukpute.
Speaking on the crisis, Clement Onaa, chairman of Oju local government confirmed the attack but said that the area is in Konshisha local government.
He said, “The attack yesterday (Tuesday) is not in Oju but Konshisha, though, Ochoro community consists of Igede people. One thing you must know is that Oju and Obi people who are Igede live in Gwer East and even Konshisha LGAs or any other Tiv areas.
“Am aware of the crisis and have called my colleague in Konshisha LGA to commensurate with him. So, the crisis is not in my council.”
When contacted, Chairman of Konshisha local government, James Ijirgba said he was aware of the crisis but waiting to be briefed by the Divisional Police Officer.
“Am aware of the crisis but it is still a rumour until I hear from the DPO who promised to get details and brief me but I have not heard from him, you know that the place is far from LG headquarters,” Ijirgba said.
Efforts to get the State Command spokesperson, DSP, Catherine Anene were not successful as her phone did not connect when our correspondent put a call to her.
