Top officers from the Central Naval Command and the traditional rulers in Bayelsa State are set to attend the 2021 annual public lecture of the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council, to develop a network for information gathering and sharing in a bid to improve security along the waterways of the Niger Delta region.
The lecture series, which is in its eighth year, entitled: “Maritime Security: Implications for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry” will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at the Conference Hall of Matho Crystal Hotel, Yenagoa, along Edepie-Imiringi road.
The organisers of the public lecture series, in a statement signed by the Chairman, Lecture Planning Committee, Samuel Ese of the Business Day Newspapers, said the event would be presided over by King Bubaraye Dakolo, Agada IV, Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom.
According to the statement, the guest lecturer at the event would be the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Obinwanne Egbuchulam.
Ese further explained that “the lecture will discuss among others, issues concerning security in the Niger Delta region, the oil and gas industry and security in the maritime domain.
“Expected to grace the event are key players from the nation’s oil and gas industry, the maritime industry, industry and security chiefs.
“Also expected are members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, stakeholders from the backwaters of the Delta, members of the Nuj and the general public.”
