‘Secondary school leavers need more examination options’

Programme director and head of School, JSAY Prevarsity, Dr Jumoke Akere, has said that secondary leavers in Nigeria should be given more examination options that will enable them to gain entry into higher institutions of learning, rather than only through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

She added that “in other climes, high school students are given different options they need to gain admission into the university; they are not limited in any way.”

Dr Akere stated this while speaking to newsmen during a press conference organised by the college to sensitise the public about the need to make other options available to secondary school leavers and why they should take advantage of them.

Speaking about JSAY Prevarsity, she noted that the school as a post-secondary school education outfit in Nigeria, was established  to assist secondary school leavers to harness the various available options in this regard.

She stated that the school was in partnership with the British Council and other related bodies to run programmes such as A’levels, SAT & PSAT, Cambridge IGSCE and TOEFL and IELTS, among others, while in Nigeria, A’levels, JUPEB and others.

According to her, “the college is committed to raising young achievers who are equipped to excel and stand out in every sphere of life and focused on what is most important to young people, namely: personal growth, innovative ambition, building lifelong relationship, breaking new grounds, freedom and responsibility, independent thinking, hard work, growing in mind and spirit and becoming an informed leader.”

Head of Academics, Mr Ayoade Olayiwola, noted that JSAY was out to provide life-changing opportunities for students, both in and outside the country, to secure foreign admissions or  migrate out of the country for other reasons.

In his remarks, the head of admissions, Mr Luke Onomiril emphasised the  place of  balancing morals with academics, saying: “this has helped tremendously and stood out our products wherever they are found; not lost in the crowd, but resolute on achieving their goals.”
