Rotary Club International thrives despite COVID-19 pandemic ― DG

The District Governor of Rotary Club International, District 9142, Mr Ndukwe Okpani Chukwu, has disclosed that the club during his tenure recorded a huge success despite the adverse effect of Covid-19 pandemic that ravaged the country.

Delivering his speech during the club’s “Pathfinder Decon 2021” held in Owerri on Thursday, he said that though it was the most challenging year, yet full of lofty goals targeted at raising the bar for the club.

Mr Chukwu said that the club between 2020/2021 recorded a net increase of 571 growth, registered 10 new clubs and 2 new clubs in the making.

He said that the club also beat another best records of her financial rating from $170 it used to be to $180, assuring that the club would certainly cross the $200,000 target.

The District Governor, while appreciating the efforts of the members who served with him and the past leaders of the club, said that what they achieved would not have been possible without the support of his predecessors.

He said; “we have done well because we stood on the shoulders of the giants, our predecessors who equally contributed enormously for the growth of the club.”

The outgoing DG said that he would be leaving behind a better District for the incoming DG of the club, assuring that nothing should take the club away from members.

While thanking God for seeing them through the horrible years, he advised the members to remain focused and be their brothers’ keeper always to ensure the development of the club.

He said: “the story of Rotary is like the story of a family, and I charge you not to allow anything, not even politics to take Rotary away from you.”

The Rotary Club conference would mark the gradual end of the current administration under Mr Ndukwe Okpani Chukwu.

A new District Governor of the club would take over the affairs of the by next month.

In his remarks earlier, the Chairman of the Pathfinder Decon 2021, Dr Jude Ohanele thanked Rotarians from different clubs across the districts in the country.

Ohanele advised members to be fully engaged and ensure that they participate in every activity of the conference with a view to acquiring more knowledge about the club and the world.
