Road crashes claim 112 killed lives in Bauchi in six months ― FRSC

It has been confirmed that no fewer than 112 people lost their lives in various automobile accidents totalling 1,750 within the last six months in Bauchi state.

The figures were released by Bauchi State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) through the Sector Commander of the Corps, Abdulrasak Najume while speaking during the commemoration of the 2019 World remembrance day for victims of road accidents.

He said that an estimated sum of  N1.5 trillion was spent for the purchase of drugs and other equipment annually for victims of road crashes, adding that such huge amount of money should have been used to develop other critical sectors of the economy for rapid socio-economic development.

He lamented how Nigerians continue to show laxity towards reducing road crashes which have contributed to the loss of lives and property.

Abdulrazak Najume said that: “The lack of concern by Nigerians towards the loss of lives and property is the reason why there is an increase in road crashes and that is why it is a collective responsibility for all of us here to work together and be our brother’s keeper.”

The FRSC Sector Commander further lamented the high rate of road crashes in the state and urged religious and community leaders, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), leaders of motor park Unions and other stakeholders in the state to help in combating the ugly trend through massive sensitisation and campaigns.

The Commander, who said that the Command will continue to deliver on its mandate in ensuring safety on the highways, appealed to vehicle owners and other road users to ensure that they obeyed traffic rules and regulations by avoiding over-speeding, overloading, wrong overtaking and indiscriminate parking along the highways.
