Gombe state Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya presenting a cheque to one of those whose property will be affected by the road construction in Gombe
A total of 309 landlords in Gombe metropolis whose properties will be affected by major road constructions within the metropolis in the ongoing expansion of the state capital have been compensated various amounts to the tune of N381m.
Flagging off the payment of the compensation at Kagarawal and Bolari communities respectively on Tuesday, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, said that his administration places a premium on infrastructural development, social engagement and economic transformation of the entire state.
According to him, road construction forms part of his campaign promises to execute projects that have a direct bearing on the lives of the people especially those at the rung of the ladder.
He further said that despite the global economic meltdown, occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic, to which Gombe State is not immune, his administration is doing its best to put smiles on the faces of the people.
The governor said that: “For this reason, my eyes and ears are wide open and my legs still standing firm and strong to go round the nooks and crannies of the state in order to evaluate and re-evaluate the pressing and immediate needs of the people.”
Inuwa Yahaya also said that the Malam Inna-kagarawal-Unguwa Uku Road project as well a that of Bolari quarters is a replica of what was obtained in other parts of the state aimed at opening up the entire state for social and economic activities.
He described road networks as an important artery for the ease of not only doing business but the movement of goods and accessing educational and health services within the State at the nick of time.
He then assured that “we are going to complete the road in Malam Inna Kagarawal and Unguwa Uku with the compliment of solar powered streetlights.
“We have equally constructed a 120-bed capacity hospital in this area and we have completed the multi-billion naira 7.5 kilometres erosion control project which has over the years been a thorn in the flesh of these communities,” he said.
Chairman of the compensation committee and Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development, Muhammad Gambo Magaji, had earlier stressed the state government’s
commitment towards paying those whose property will be affected by the construction of the roads.
Explaining the modalities for the payment of compensation, the Commissioner of Works, Engineer Abubakar Bappah, said the payment will be made in accordance with the guidelines based on the type and the overall finishing of each property.
He then announced that a period of two weeks is being given to individuals whose property will be affected to evacuate their valuables before the commencement of the road construction.
The governor had earlier inspected the ongoing London Maidoruwa-Alkahira road project, all within the state capital, which had reached an advanced stage of completion.
The roads to be constructed are in Malam Inna, Kagarawal, Unguwa Uku and Bolari Communities all in the Gombe metropolis.
