Rivers rerun: FG working to kill PDP —Wike

Published by

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has accused the federal authorities of working to kill the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, he said it was the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would die politically.

He made the allegation in the face of the continued postponement of the court-ordered inconclusive legislative rerun election first held in the state on March 19, 2016.

The governor, who spoke when he granted audience to the leadership of a Non -Indigenes Without Borders in his office, on Tuesday, further alleged that  efforts were being made by the  administration  to stagnate the state .

“We have a sad situation, where everything is being done at the Federal level  to kill the PDP. However, in the end, it is their own political party that will die,” he said.

Wike also cleared the air on his role in the botched attempt by Department of State Security (DSS) operatives to arrest a Federal High Court judge in Port Harcourt penultimate Saturday, saying his action was to ensure that the right process was followed.

The governor, who also alleged repeated plots to rig the yet-to-be rescheduled rerun in the state, noted that nobody would be allowed to steal the mandate of Rivers people, “no matter the deployment of pliant security agencies.

“They are repeatedly shifting the date of the rerun elections so that they can have a convenient time to rig. Nobody should be scared of their plan to use DSS and police to rig the rerun election.

“The policeman that is carrying gun, how many people can he kill? In Turkey, where they resisted the Army, are they not human beings? Nobody will circumvent the mandate of the Rivers people,” he said.

He further alluded that, being an opposition state, the people of the state were aware that there was an ongoing intense battle for the survival of the state with those he said were in control of power at the federal level.

Earlier, the national leader of the organization, Mr  Emeka Onowu, lauded Wike for providing a leadership which he said had helped to shape democracy in the country, describing him as “a detribalised governor who caters for all interest and ethnic groups.”
