The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection to the kidnap and killing of a 64-year-old retired Army Captain, Godfrey Zwallmark who is a native of Plateau State.
Speaking to journalists at the scene where the remains of the Army Captain was exhumed, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka said the incident occurred on September 18, 2021, but was reported to the Police a month later.
CP Eboka stated that as soon as the matter was reported to the Police, operatives swung into action and, through due intelligence, arrested three suspects namely Frank Ishie, Iwuji Reginald, Gomba Okparaji.
The police commissioner disclosed that the suspects had demanded N200 million from the family of the retired Army Captain and advised the youth to abstain from crime as there was no benefit in it.
One of the suspects, Frank Ishie, who spoke to journalists on behalf of others confessed to the crime, explaining that the victim was kidnapped at Agbonchia in Eleme and was shot in the leg when he proved stubborn as he was being taken to their destination.
The suspect revealed that the victim bled to death and they threw him at the scene located at the new layout off Igbo-Etche road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The suspects also confessed that he had carried out four successful kidnaps and the victims were kept at their hideout in off Igbo-Etche road, Obi/Akpor before he collected ransom and released them.
