Members of the National Resident Doctors Association of Nigeria, Sokoto State chapter has recorded total compliance in its nationwide strike declared by the national body.
The state chairman of the association in Sokoto State, Doctor Sufiyanu Yabo, stated this while speaking with our correspondent, on Monday.
He said the state in accordance with the directive of the national leadership of the association, the strike will remain in effect until after the agreement signed with the government is upheld.
According to him, “remember the strike was suspended last time after we signed an agreement with the government.
“Government refuse to honour the agreement they signed with us and this is the reason we have to embark on total strike to press home our demands.
“I believe the strike will be in place until everything is settled and all the agreement signed with our association is fully implemented,” he added.
Meanwhile, when our correspondent visited Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), senior doctors and nurses were seen offering medical assistance to patients at the hospital.
Some other patients were also advised by their family members to seek alternative treatment at private hospitals as the number of doctors attending to patients were now limited.
One of the relatives of the patient who spoke with our correspondent, Aminu Abdullahi, described the situation in the hospital as pathetic.
He appealed to the federal government to urgently resolved the crisis so as to help masses who could not afford to patronise private hospitals or seeking medical care outside the country.
