Resident doctors strike: Kebbi FMC attends to patients

The President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Federal Medical Center (FMC), Birnin-Kebbi, Dr Abdulraheem Olayinka, has expressed his worries over the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the resident doctors nationwide.

Olayinka in an interview with Tribune Online joined voices with other Nigerians for the federal government to urgently do the needful in the interest of the Nigeria masses.

He explained that though they are on strike as directed by the national body of the union, the doctors of senior cadre and consultants in FMC, Birnin-Kebbi still carry out the hospital services.

The NARD President said his association has no issues with the management of the hospital, noting that the resident doctors at the FMC Birnin-Kebbi joined in the strike because it was a directive from the national body.

“The senior cadre doctors and consultants are doing their best to keep the hospital running and we commend their efforts,” he said.

Some of the patients who spoke with Tribune Online expressed concern over their plight, they appreciated the efforts of senior doctors attending to them, they added that their efforts would be fully complemented if the junior doctors on strike would call off their strike.

Dr. Olayinka also called on the FMC management to participate fully in the training and retraining of resident doctors and also participate in the payment of their exam fees.
