Rainstorm wreaks havoc in Ondo community, over 40 buildings destroyed

Published by

About 40 buildings were destroyed on Sunday night after a torrential rainstorm that wreaked havoc in the Igisogba community of Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The destruction has rendered many residents of the community homeless and displaced and was being sheltered by their neighbours while others were accommodated by their family members.

Some of the buildings affected by the rain include churches, shops, schools while electricity poles were affected, plunging the whole community into total darkness.

The residents of the community, however, called on the state government to assist them, saying the incident had paralysed the social-economic activities of the community

The Chairman of Igisogba Landlord Association, Mr Ebenezer Ojo, called on the state government for urgent assistance, explaining that most of the affected people had been displaced and in a state of confusion.

“We want to call on the authority of Akure South Local Government, Ondo State Government and well-meaning individuals and concerned agencies to come to our aid.

“The rainstorm has inflicted colossal damage on private individuals, families, businesses and corporate organisations.

“We want the government to help our people return to their normal life.”
