Promoting Black-owned business, not racist ― US-based Bolaji Ajike

Published by

Racism has become a touchy subject all over the world in recent times. There have been outcries against it in whatever coloration, tint or slurs in every facet of our lives, be it social, business and even sports. So, when US-based Nigerian born entrepreneur, Bolaji Adeola Ajike declares that her life’s mission is to promote only black-owned businesses to the world, questions arise whether her intentions may be construed as racist in outlook.

But the cerebral lady has her defense handy and she drove home her arguments succinctly in a recent interview.

Hear her: “It’s not racist. I haven’t told anyone they can’t support Black-owned businesses. Businesses that are owned in part or whole by a melanated individual are who I choose to highlight to address an economic disparity.

“An Asian supporting another Asian, white with white, etc has been touted as them practicing group economics. Why is it when a Black person wants to support another Black person it’s considered racist? People don’t realize that everyone of all ethnic backgrounds and walks of life are supporting the businesses and creatives on my network.

“Supporting our own is as organic as breathing. I wanted to change the narrative of “black folk don’t support their own”. How can we rationalize spending trillions of dollars per year with everyone but we don’t spend that much with ourselves to change the circumstances we have found ourselves across the globe? We have the ability to help ourselves. I’ve been schooled by some amazing people who put up on Kwame Nkrumah, Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael), Fela Kuti, Dr. Ben Jochannan, Dr. John Henrik Clark, Dr. Claude Anderson, Anthony Browder, Professor James Small, and so many more.”

She went on to describe the very essence of her company, AfroGanix, iterating it is all about Blacks ruling their world, supporting one another irrespective of their ancestral origins.

“I called my company AfroGanix because it was meant to symbolize so much. Afro- pays homage to our African origin and true aboriginality across the diaspora. Honoring our Afro hair and reminding us all of our love for one another. Our economic success relies on us empowering one another, unifying, building, & supporting one another.

“Ganix- is a play on the term Organic. Our true nature is that of creators & cultivators. Our ancestors across the globe worked together no matter how far we reached. Our fingerprint is evident across the globe. We all descend from the true organic creators and originators,” she explained.

“I operate AfroGanix, LLC to align businesses with Distribution, Manufacturing, and Fulfillment globally. Helping you get “What You Need, Where You Need It, When You Need it!” Over the years, I developed a passion for service and a passion for the economic success of the African Diaspora.  After earning my Master’s in Public Administration, I set out to be a “rebuilder of economic anomalies” within the Black Community such as the much touted “Black Wall Street”. I want to see a Black Wall Street in every melanated community globally,” she added.
Bolaji Adeola Ajike, a Nigerian by birth, migrated to the United States of America at the age of 7 years with her parents.

She holds a B.A. in Communications Studies and and Masters in Public Administration from Mount St. Mary’s University, Enmitsburg, Maryland and Capella University, Minneapolis, Minnesota respectively.

“I almost had that doctorate in Health Administration but I wanted to focus on my businesses and dropped out 5 years into the program. My mom hasn’t forgiven me yet. She wanted her “Dr. Ajike” so bad,” she joked.

Bolaji Adeola Ajike is an entrepreneur with businesses in different fields. She was born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in Surulere, Lagos until her family moved to the United States in 1995. She grew up in Willingboro, NJ (Boro). She’s the oldest of 4 children.

Her parent company, AfroGanix was established in 2016. In the years ahead she plans to expand by building brands to augment the vision of AfroGanix.
