MohBad, born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba on June 8, 1996, in Lagos State, Nigeria, was a rapper, singer, and songwriter. His parents were Pastor Joseph Aloba and Mrs. Oladimeji, and he emerged from humble beginnings.
Mohbad completed his Primary and Secondary education in Lagos, obtaining his first school leaving and SSCE certificate.
Developing a passion for music at a young age, MohBad worked as a carpenter to finance his early musical endeavours. His musical journey to fame began with unofficial track releases that gained traction within his community and online platforms. Then he signed with Marlian Music, founded by Naira Marley in 2019, marking a significant move for Mohbad’s musical career.
MohBad’s association with Marlian Music propelled him to stardom and hits like “Ko Po Ke (KPK)” featuring Rexxie showcased his rising prominence. As a rising Nigerian music industry artist, Mohbad was well-known for his unique fusion of pop, Afrobeat, and hip-hop. His fans loved him for his skill as a lyricist/songwriter.
In 2022, Mohbad published his debut album, “Imole,” which was a huge commercial success. The album, which included popular songs like “See My Benz,” “Kimi,” and “Ronaldo,” helped him establish himself as a leading figure in the field.
He followed up his popular song “Ponmo,” which featured Naira Marley and Lil Kesh, with his debut album, Light EP, released in the fourth quarter of 2020. MohBad received five nominations for The Beatz Awards in 2021.
He has also collaborated with renowned Nigerian artists like Davido, strengthening his status as a sought-after talent.
In February 2022, he faced legal troubles with the NDLEA due to possessing illegal substances. Amidst these troubles, MohBad parted ways with Marlian Music in 2022 over unpaid royalties.
Later, he made allegations of domestic violence against Naira Marley, raising suspicions about his untimely demise in September 2023.
MohBad, survived by his son Light, leaves a legacy as a promising rapper and artist.
As at the time of putting this article together, the Nigerian police force, has instituted a special panel to investigate his untimely death. Legal luminaries like Falana and Falana, the state government of Lagos under Sanwo-olu Babajide have also demanded further inquisition into the mystery of Mohbad’s death.
Mohbad, according to his AKA ‘Imole’, was a light burnt out too soon.
