Prepare for life after retirement when in service, Okebukola tells LASU staff members

Published by

Former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission(NUC), Prof Peter Okebukola has asked members of staff of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo to prepare very well ahead of retirement when they would no longer collect salaries.

He also asked them to remain committed to duties even while they are still in service and contribute meaningfully to the progress of LASU and the Lagos State by extension.

Okebukola gave the advice on Tuesday at an event organised by the university’s Faculty of Education to honour him and two other colleagues, Professors Tayibat Danmole and Cordelia Nwaboku, who were all retired from the service of the university recently having reached the 70 years statutory age of retirement.

The event, held at Ojo campus of LASU has in attendance, many top management staff including the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyedamola Oke; Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic, Prof Wahab Elias; University Librarian, Dr. Lai Adebayo, and the Deans of Faculty of Education(Prof Tunde Owolabi); Law(Prof Anthony Olagunju); Management Sciences(Prof Babatunde Yusuf); Social Sciences(Prof Omobitan); the Director of Quality Assurance, Prof. Rafiu Okuneye and the university’s spokesman, Mr Ademola Adekoya, among others.

Speaking further, Prof Okebukola, who until his retirement was the director of LASU-Africa Centre of Excellence for STEM Education, asked the workers not to be contented with their present skills and knowledge but to continue to seek more to enable them to remain economically relevant after retirement from government work.

He thanked the organisers of the event for the honour done them and the university for giving them the opportunity to serve, saying they would remain grateful to the institution and also to God for keeping them alive and making their stay worthwhile.

He promised that he and his colleagues would continue to contribute to the progress of the faculty of education where they were all served and to LASU as a whole.

In his remarks, the acting VC, Prof Oyedamola Oke, commended the three retired scholars for what he called their great contributions to LASU and their impacts on its products and humanity.

He said personally he had shared some moments with each of them in the university from as far back as 1984 and found them to be great role models.
