THE Chairman, Westlink aviation, Captain Ibrahim Mshelia has identified Poor radio communications as the greatest challenge confronting pilots while flying.
He therefore, urged the management of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to review its operational procedures to ensure enhanced radio communication in the country’s airspace.
In an interactive session with some journalists, Mshelia described sectorization as the only solution to reduce the congested airspace saying: “I urge NAMA to review their procedure so that we adopt more modern things. Airlines have been compelled to equip their aircraft with modern navigational equipment and radios.”
The Westlink Chief called for the exemption of the aviation sector from the issue of forex as the industry was in critical need of recovering and to continue ensuring safety.
Commenting on the coming of new airlines on the domestic scene, he said it was a welcome development saying it will give room to competition for them to consolidate.
According to him, the country’s aviation sector remained a very big one that will continue to encourage new airlines as most parts were yet to be covered especially with the general aviation service.
