Politicians fuel religious crises in Nigeria — Sultan of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto and head of Muslims in Nigeria, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar on Sunday accused the political class in Nigeria of fueling religious crisis for their selfish interest.

The Sultan also said the political class has been using the crisis to create religious unrest in the country.

The Sultan stated this at Saint David’s Cathedral Hall in Akure, Ondo state, during a meeting with religious leaders under Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) as part of his two days visit to Ondo state.

Alhaji Abubakar advised Nigerians to shun politicians and affluent people who are politicising religious, noting that the Bible and Quran did not belong to any political party.

On the alleged demolition of a mosque in Port-Harcourt by the Rivers state government, Alhaji Abubakar said NIREC at the national level was already handling the issue for an amicable resolution.

The Sultan said nobody could claim to love God without loving their neighbours who are Muslims and Christians.

In a remark, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo said the historic gathering was to foster religious harmony in Ondo state.

The meeting was attended by both Christians and Muslims leaders- led by CAN Chairman, Reverend John Ayo Oladapo and the chairman, league of imams and alfas, Alhaji Ahmed Aladesawe.

The Sultan had earlier inaugurated the newly built the Deji’s Palace mosque.
