The Imo State Police Command has raided a church in the state used for baby factory and arrested both the evangelist pastor and four of her gang members.
Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Rabiu Hussaini, in a statement issued in Owerri, through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abatham, said that the arrest of the suspects was sequel to credible information received by the command’s tactical unit over a missing 18-year old Amarachi Okechukwu Dioku ‘f’.
The CP said that Amarachi, who hails from Umudurualaoka Uba Ifakala Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State, had earlier on been reported missing by her parents but was sighted in the premises of a church located in an isolated area along MCC/Uratta road in Owerri North LGA of Imo State.
Rabiu said that armed with the information, a team from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit was immediately dispatched to the church.
He said that the team on arrival condoned off the church identified as “JESUS LIFE ASSEMBLY” located at School Garden, Uratta in Owerri North LGA of Imo State and arrested the prime suspect, who happened to be the resident evangelist of the church, a 47-year-old Evangelist Ugochi Orisakwe.
Also arrested included her 4 other gang members identified as a 34-year old Chidi Orisakwe “M”, 42-year-old Pauline Nwagbunwanne “F”, Elizabeth Uzoma “F” age 61 years and Chibueze Joy “F” aged 31 years. He said that they had all been taken to the station.
The CP said that the victim, Miss Amarachi Okechukwu Dioku was rescued unhurt with five-month-old pregnancy and was immediate, taken to a government hospital for treatment, adding that she was later reunited with her parents amidst jubilation.
Evangelist Ugochi Orisakwe on interrogation confessed to having been using the church as a place where young girls are kept, impregnated and after delivery, the girls are paid off and their babies sold to rich and childless clients.
The CP said that the investigation was ongoing and efforts were on to arrest other members of the syndicate who were on the run.
Rabiu commended the brilliant and gallant efforts of the tactical teams and called on Imolites to be wary of churches located in isolated areas within their localities.
He warned all persons or groups, who indulged in kidnapping/ trafficking in children to leave the state as the command had put in a robust strategy that would lead to their arrest forthwith.
