Kwara State police command has arrested and paraded 16 suspected cultists, who allegedly caused a break down of law and order in the Ilorin metropolis recently.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday during the parade of the suspects, the state commissioner of Police, Mohammed Bagega, said the suspected cultists are members of Aiye and Eiye confraternity, who were on a revenge mission at Oko-Olowo area of Ilorin, the state capital.

The Police boss said that the command explored instrumentality of community policing, which he said entails proactive and intelligence, leading to arrest of the suspects.

He explained that the anti-kidnapping and anti-cultist team of the command, in collaboration with vigilante groups, stormed the Oko-Olowo area and arrested the suspects who include four females and 12 males.

He also said that the suspects had confessed to being members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternity.

The Police commissioner also said that the operatives of the command were able to recover dangerous weapons including guns, machetes, axe, charms, and large wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

He said that the command would collaborate with relevant agencies to bring crime and criminality to the nearest minimum in the state.

In another development, the commissioner said that the command also raided a criminal hideout in Moro Local Government Area of the state and recovered six pieces of locally fabricated guns, meant to be used by the criminals for their nefarious criminal activities

The commissioner said that efforts are on to arrest the criminals for possible prosecution, urging the people to volunteer useful information to the police.

He stressed that fighting criminals require a joint effort.
