The Imo State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend the kidnap suspects who abducted Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Imo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer DSP Okoye Henry, he said intelligence-driven operation is also underway to facilitate the possible rescue of the Catholic priest.
He however urged the public to provide any relevant information to the nearest police station.

Meanwhile in a letter of notice of the incident to the Imo State Police Command Owerri dated Monday 24th March 2025 signed by the Archdiocesan Chancellor/Secretary of the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Rev Fr. Patrick Mbarah, he said that Fr. Mbaechu was kidnapped on the evenning of Sunday 23rd March 2025.
He said that the victim is the Parish priest of Holy Family Catholic Church Izombe adding that the incident occurred along Ejemekwuru road in Oguta Council Area of Imo State
According to the letter, Fr. Mbaechu was kidnapped while on his way to the Priests Annual Retreat.
He called on all men and women of God to earnestly pray for his safe release.
