Police intercepts N3m worth prohibited drugs in Jigawa

THE Police in Jigawa state arrested prohibited drug worth over N3 million allegedly smuggle from Niger republic attempted to Nigeria through Maigatari in the state.

Speaking to Tribune online the Jigawa state Police command Public Relation Officer, (PPRO) SP Abdu Jinjiri said the vehicle contained 10 cartons and 5,000 packets of Tramol, “this drug is listed among the prohibited substances”.

SP Abdu Jinjiri maintained that “the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle has abandoned the vehicle and took to his heels when he was been pursuit by the police.

According to DSP Jinjiri, “we have already traced the owner of the illegal substance to one Isa Habibu, 29, from Gabasawa local government area of Kano state”.

He said “the substance which is estimated at over N3 million, is already handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Dutse alongside the alleged culprit for prosecution”.

The Police image maker stated further that the drugs was intended to be sold in the open markets by special vendors that also purchase the commodity for onward distribution to other patrons.

Findings by Tribune online revealed that the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on duty yesterday alerted the police that a Toyota Corolla brand of vehicle with registration number NSR 133 FL on top speed has refused to be stopped and checked at the border check point.

Tribune online also gathered that the police responded in time and pursued the speeding vehicle and succeeded in apprehending the vehicle.

Jigawa is among the northern states that have been ravaged by indiscriminate consumption of narcotics ‎of all varieties by youth and some married women across the state.
