Police clamp down on suspected Orji Police Station attacker in Imo

The Imo State Police Command’s Quick Response Team has arrested one of the suspects who attacked Orji Police Station in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, recently.

The team in a joint operation with Ikeduru Police Division arrested a 32-year old Chukwumakpa Henry.

In a statement issued in Owerri by the Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Bala Elkana, the suspect is a native of Iho in Ikeduru Local Government Area but resident at Orji area, Owerri.

According to the PPRO, the suspect was arrested in his hideout at Ikeduru Local Government Area following an intelligence-driven operation.

SP Bala said that the suspect was alleged to have participated in the attack on Orji Police Station on 25, May 2021, and other heinous crimes in the recent past which he had confessed to when interrogated, admitting that he is a member of the criminal gang masquerading as unknown gunmen in the state.

The PPRO said that some quantity of substance, suspected to be cocaine were recovered from him, adding that he confessed to dealings in illicit and hard drugs as a means of subsistence.

Bala said that investigation was ongoing and efforts were being intensified to arrest other gang members and recover their firearms.

He said that the Commissioner of Police Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, had commended the efforts of the teams in living up to the constitutional responsibility of the Police in securing the lives and property of the citizens.

Bala said that the achievements recorded were also in line with the mission of the Commissioner of Police in ensuring that Imo State remains one of the safer states in Nigeria and Africa.

He said that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the investigation was concluded.
