Police arrest man for allegedly killing father over chicken head in Ondo

26-year-old man Godwin Matthew has allegedly killed his father by macheting him to death for giving him only the head out of a whole chicken.

Godwin was said to have left home for the farm with his late father, Mathew Audu, before the incident.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami, who disclosed this said the mother of the young man reported the incident at the police station.

Odunlami explained that the police swung into action and it was discovered during investigation that the farmer was hacked to death by his son.

According to her, “on the 9th of September, 2021, a case of murder was reported at Ala Divisional Headquarters by one Mrs Christiana Audu, that his husband, Matthew and her son Godwin Matthew, ’m’, 26 years old left home with his father to the family’s farm and it was discovered that the man was macheted to death.”

Odunlami explained that the young man said he killed his father for giving him only the head out of a whole chicken.

She said: “In the course of interrogation, the suspect stated that on 9th September 2021, his late father directed him to kill a chicken for his brother one Emmanuel Audu ‘m’, 7 years old, for his entertainment but it was only the chicken head that was given to him and this made him kill his father.”

In a similar development, a 39-year-old scavenger, Basiru Ibrahim, was alleged to have killed a 45-year-old man, Arise Ikuesan, in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Ikuesan was said to have prevented the scavenger from picking an iron rod from his compound which infuriated the scavenger and hit the deceased with the rod.

The PPRO said Ibrahim was arrested and confessed to committing the offence, adding that he will be charged to court.
