Published by

Operatives of Ondo State Police Command have arrested two men, Owolabi Abiodun and
Benedict Ifeanyi has been impersonating and parading themselves as soldiers in Army uniform in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

While Abiodun, 27, who claimed to be a student of the School of Health Technology Akure, was arrested on the 11th of April when he came to harass and threaten the friend’s landlord and co-tenants following an eviction notice by the landlord.

He was said to have threatened the landlord that he will pay with his life if he dares to evict his friend from the house but the case was reported at the police station and the suspect was arrested.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the arrest of the fake soldier said “Upon the receipt of the information, Policemen were sent to the house to invite Abiodun and his friends.

“Investigation, however, revealed that the suspect had been parading himself to be a Soldier in his area”

Odunlami said the suspect confessed to having bought the uniform in an open market because he love the uniform and the profession.

“He however confessed that he was never a Soldier but liked the uniform and bought it from an open market.

“He is helping the Police with other information that can help in arresting his cohorts and those involved in the illegal buying and selling of Military uniforms,” she said.

Odunlami however explained that the other fake soldier was arrested after using the military uniform to dupe an unsuspecting member of the public.

According to her, Ifeanyi who has been parading himself as a military officer in his community was contacted by one Miss Joy Tony who was defrauded of the sum of N2m by an Estate agent after paying for five plots of land.

The young lady had paid for the lands before she discovered that she had been duped and employed the services of the fake soldier to retrieve her money.

She said the fake soldier arrested the Estate agent, Owolabi Olawumi, and took him to an unknown destination where he obtained the sum of N300,000 from the Estate agent and set him free without the knowledge of the complainant.

While the complainant approached the fake soldier, she was told that the agent had been taken to custody in the barrack but after waiting for weeks with no response, she approached the barracks where she was told the man was never a military man.

Ifeanyi was subsequently arrested by men of the state police command and confessed that he was never a soldier after interrogation.

Odunlami said the two men would be arraigned before the court after an investigation.
