Police arrest 100 suspected cultists in Delta

Over 100 suspected cultists have been arrested in different parts of Delta State in a renewed clampdown by the police following serial killings of persons in the state.

At least 8 persons have been killed in Asaba since last week Monday while over five cult boys were shot dead in Ogwashi Uku even as other parts of the state continued to record similar casualties.

In a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe on Saturday, police patrol along Ibusa-Ogwashi-Uku – Issele-Azagba road after Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic, received information that a group of suspected cultists came out from the bush with intent to cause mayhem.

The cultists who were armed on sighting the police, quickly retreated back to the bush, but the police chased them and following exchange of gun fire the hoodlums threw away one AK 50 rifle with breach No. NA48333 containing a full loaded magazine with nineteen (19) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and escaped.

According to the statement, a cult initiation process in another development was foiled   in Ogume community in Ogume, Ndokwa West council area of the state.

Over 28 suspect were arrested in the bush on the spot.

Similarly, eight suspected Aiye confraternity cult members were also arrested in Warri.  

 The confessional statement of one of the suspects, the PPRO said led to the  arrest of one Lucky Eluagu  alias DJ Lucky 27 years old Okpe Street Jeddo in okpe local government area

Exhibit recovered from him includes  a face cap  with black axe logo. 

DSP Edafe reiterated the Commissioner of Police mandate to divisional police officers and tactical commanders to embark on continuous raid of cultists hideout, suspected cultist from different cults adding that those arrested would be charged to court on conclusion of investigation.
