The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, celebrated his 62nd birthday on Wednesday with over 20,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He donated the sum of N5 million and 100 bags of rice to the victims of the recent crisis in the area.
Speaking at the palace of the paramount ruler of Magwahwful, the Mishkaham Mwaghavul, Da John Putmang Hirse, Obi condemned the killings in parts of the local government and promised to collaborate with the state government and traditional institutions to take care of the IDPs.
He emphasized that the people deserved the attention of all well-meaning Nigerians to reintegrate back into society, having lost their valuables and loved ones.
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party commiserated with the people of Mangu in Plateau State, describing the killings as sad and unnecessary. Da John Putmang Hirse, the Mishkaham Mwaghavul, expressed gratitude to Mr Obi for his gesture and extended warm birthday wishes to him.
Earlier, Mr Obi had visited Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House in Jos. He explained that he chose his birthday to visit the internally displaced persons in Mangu and show support to the people while expressing condolences for the needless killings that have occurred in some local government areas of the state.
Mr Obi commended the governor for his relentless efforts to end the killings and emphasized the need for Nigerians to stand with their people, especially during such trying times. He called for an end to the barbaric killings and urged security agencies to collaborate in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
In response, Governor Mutfwang wished Mr Obi a happy birthday and thanked him for his visit to the state. He expressed the honour of celebrating Mr Obi’s birthday with the internally displaced persons in Mangu.
The governor stressed the determination to fight for peace and ensure that Plateau State remains a haven of peace and tourism despite the recent tragic events.
