Nigerian gospel music group, 121 Selah is currently slugging it out with South African and Zimbabwean counterparts, Hush and The Unveiled respectively for the grand prize at the second edition of Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices.

Having sung their last performances last Sunday, the winner among the three groups will be decided by viewers and fans spread across the continent.

Voting which is exclusively on the African Magic platform will end, on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

The winning group will go home with $100,000 grand prize. It will be recalled that Kenyan acapella group Wanavokali was adjudged winner of the first season of the pan-African vocal competition.

The competition started out with ten music groups from five African countries — Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa — with seven already eliminated. The last three are now jostling to emerge Africa’s top unsigned acapella talents.

It will be recalled that Lagos-based 121 Selah won the Golden Voices Award three times during the competition, a recognition given to the best performing group every week.

121 Selah is one of the groups tipped to win the coveted prize by the show’s experienced judges from each of the countries and show advisor Zwai Bala.

Bala, in one, of the past episodes, described 121 Selah’s polished musicality as spiritual. This is no thanks to the fact that 121 Selah has collaborated with recording artists and sang back up on Grammy Award-winner Burna Boy’s ‘Bank On It’.

Notable among the eight-man group’s performances during the show are ‘He Turned It’ by Tye Tribbet, ‘Nothing Without You’ by Dr Tumi and ‘Let the Praise Begin’ by Fred Hammond.

The winner of the competition will be announced on Sunday after the compilation of votes which ends on Thursday. The voting platform is accessible via https://africamagic.dstv.com/show/amazing-voices/season/2/vote
