IPMAN, Petroleum
The Association of Imo State Petroleum Marketers and Dealers has suspended its industrial action embarked upon since Wednesday, 25th August, 2020 in the state.
The association, in a statement issued in Owerri and endorsed by its chairman, Mr Chimodo Martins, said that it had made the sufferings of its members in the hands of some government agencies known to the public through the industrial action.
It insisted that if after the expiration of two weeks commitment given by state government, the issues were not properly addressed, the union shall be left with no option than to be compelled to continue the Industrial action.
The association submitted that greater consideration and interest was focused on the sufferings of the citizens of Imo State in general, occasioned by the industrial action.
According to them before resolving to suspend the strike, series of meetings had been held with the state government, DPR, DSS, PTD branch of NUPENG, and some security agencies in the state.
The association recalled that in its last meeting with the state government, presided over by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), he assured the PTD and Marketers that their complaint would be resolved within two weeks from the date of the meeting.
According to them, relying on the above promise, the government and the intervention of the DSS, the union had suspended the industrial action forthwith.
“We are very grateful to members of the press for their effective reportage, members of Civil Society Organisation, the religious groups, who have made several efforts in reaching out and the general public for their understanding,” the association said.
