PDP wins local government elections in Sokoto

The Sokoto State State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has declared candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winners of the just concluded local government election in the state.

The chairman of the commission announced the results at the headquarters of the commission in Mabera area of the state capital on Sunday.

According to the chairman, “I certify that the election was conducted hitch-free and 10 political parties participated in the election.

“The candidates that won have the highest number of valid votes and satisfied the requirements of law.

“They are hereby declared winners and are hereby return elected according to law,” he said.

The participating parties are Accord Party (AP); African Alliance (AA); African Democratic Congress (ADC); All Peoples Party (APP); African Progressive Movement (APM); Boot Party (BP); Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Young Peoples Party (YPP); Zenith Party (ZP) and Labour Party (LP).

Tribune Online recalls that the All Progressive Congress (APC) had earlier announced that the party will boycott the election due to the “lack of transparency in the composition of the electoral board.”
