PDP has learnt from 2015 pitfalls, will reclaim power in 2023 ― Oyo party chair

Chairman, Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Dayo Ogungbenro, has described the successful convention of the party as evidence that the party has learnt from its pitfalls in the 2015 general election and is ready to reclaim power in 2023.

Ogungbenro through a statement made available by the party’s publicity secretary, Mr Akeem Olatunji, added that the ability of the party to hold a violence-free convention had shown that the party is now more formidable and ready to take charge of the presidency in the next general election.

Ogungbenro said: “The outcome of our party convention which produced Dr Iyorchia Ayu, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja and other National Executives of the party is a clear statement that PDP in Oyo State has learnt from its pitfall in 2011 in the state and 2015 in Nigeria’s general election which has further affirmed that PDP is back and back to stay for a long time.”

He pointed to the crucial role of Governor Seyi Makinde as Secretary of the Convention Organising Committee who the party said provided practical exemplary leadership and was a rallying figure in the political landscape.

Ogungbenro further said, “it is noteworthy to specially commend our leader, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde for his practical exemplary leadership especially as the governor and also as the overall leader of our great party, PDP in Oyo State and entire south-west Nigeria.

“Anyone who thinks such feat was easy to achieve politically should go and find out from our noisy and crisis-ridden opposition.

“We also want to specially commend our party’s delegates especially, elders, leaders, members of the national and state assemblies on the platform of Oyo State PDP for their show of loyalty to the party and the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde.”
