PDP calls for calm over ‘disturbing’ Ibadan crisis

Published by

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it is deeply disturbed by the ethnic violence and bloody clashes in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, which led to the loss of several lives.

In a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Monday, the party described the clash as disconcerting and called for calm while the authorities unravel the remote and immediate cause of the crisis.

The PDP lamented the escalation of ethnic crisis in various parts of the country, “which are largely traced to indignations occasioned by the divisive policies and tendencies of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.”

The main opposition party urged the APC and its federal government to bring a lasting solution to the growing tension in the country “by ending its policies, body language and preferences that promote promotes divisiveness, lawlessness, injustices as well as infractions against our federal sensibilities.”

It, however, commended Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for his “proactive steps” to restore order in the state.

The party commiserated with the victims of the clash and called on all people of good faith to rally in ensuring peaceful co-existence in the country by instilling justice, adherence to rule of law as well as respect for federal sensibilities.
