There was partial compliance to the sit-at-home-order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Asaba, Delta State capital and its environs on Monday.
Public and private schools, banks, markets and shops in Asaba, Ogwashi Uku were closed while few vehicles were seen on the roads.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the popular Ogbogonogo market and Koka junction in Asaba which used to be a beehive of activities was virtually empty even as some banks later opened their gates to customers at about 12 noon.
Members of IPOB were said to have had a brief but peaceful protest in the Cable area of the state capital earlier in the morning.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, however, debunked the protest, saying Asaba and the entire state were generally peaceful.
“Economic activities went on steadily, people moved freely, vehicles were on the roads and nobody was molested,” she said.
According to him, officers and men of the state command were earlier told to be on red alert, watchful, and deal decisively with anyone who causes trouble, adding that they were also warned that on no account
should anybody be seen carrying or hoisting Biafra flag in whatever guise in the state.
