Pandemic resilience: Remain alive to responsibilities, Zamfara First Lady charges project team

Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has assured of the present administration’s commitment to remain steadfast in supporting issues concerning maternal and reproductive health, charges coordinating team to be alive to responsibility in the state.

Hajiya Lawal stated this at the inception meeting for reproductive health and pandemic resilience KFW project held on Sunday in Zamfara State.

The project is being implemented in Zamfara State by Marie Stopes and funded by the Government of Germany.

Zamfara First lady, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Habib Yelwa, said the project is timely and tallies with agenda of the present administration of Governor Dauda Lawal prioritizing women and children’s health.

While commending Marie Stopes and other implementing partners supporting the State health sector, the First lady further told the project coordinating team to be alive to their responsibilities.

In separate speeches, the state Head of Service, Barrister Ahmad Liman, and Emir of Gusau Sarkin Katsina, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, said partners played a significant roles to the development of the state, stressing that the new project if implemented fully would address the bulk of health challenges among citizens of the state.

Earlier Speaking, Country Director of Marie Stopes International, Micheal Eneche said the project is targeted towards educating women on how to live during menstrual circle, training of health workers on finding and treatment of cervical cancer as well as supporting the State on pandemic resilience among other activities.

He advocated for more support from the State Government and all stakeholders to ensure the overall success of the project.

In a welcome address, Permanent Secretary of State Ministry of Health, Pharm. Aliyu Muhammad Maikiyo Maradun, assured the ministry’s determination to carry all development partners along, urging them to operate in accordance with the agreement signed with the State.

Stakeholders including traditional and religious leaders, development partners, representative of people with disability, representative of MDAs presented good will messages on the occasion.

On her part, Regional Manager Marie Stopes in charge of North West Hajiya Suwaiba Abubakar shaded more light on the project and assured to work towards meeting the designed objectives.

The meeting featured series of presentations by officials from ministry of health and head office of Marie Stopes.
