OYSIEC, please pay our money

I wish to call on the management of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to please pay us for the work we engaged in as polling officers, poll clerks and other such assignments during the May 22, 2021 local government election across the state.

It is unfortunate that a few people were paid and this seems to be OYSIEC’s culture. The same system was deployed during the last council election and many people have not been paid till today.

We were told to supply BVN and we have done, except few people failed to do this but should thousands suffer for the carelessness of a few people?

What qualified the few paid for payment while majority are still wondering when they will be paid? I hope this is not a gimmick to pay few people and leave the rest hanging? If this is the case, then, it means OYSIEC has a system of using people and not paying their wages which is unfair.

The people that worked and slept in the open and in dangerous places in local government secretariats across the state a day before the election to enable the process to run seamlessly and what they are expected to get is in any way commensurate with the labour they put in, yet they are being made to hang and hope that it will get to them before the tap runs dry.

This is not a good reputation for an organization of OYSIEC’s status.  To stop speculations that it is the norm at OYSIEC to deny people of their entitlement after working hard, sleeping outside and facing countless dangers and discomfort, OYSIEC should as a matter of urgency do the needful without delay.
