OYSCHST provost counsels new students on discipline, bags EHOAN award

Provost of Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan, Mr Siji Ganiyu, has advised the new students admitted for the 2021/2022 academic session to be disciplined, well-behaved and committed to their studies for better academic performance.

Declaring open a three-day orientation programme held at the college’s sport arena, the provost enjoined the new students to shun indiscipline, bad behaviour and truancy, in order to succeed academically.

Ganiyu, who commended the governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for creating an enabling environment for learning lauded the organisers of the orientation programme, charging the students to abide by the lessons from the lecture of the programme.

The registrar of the college, Mrs Dupe Ayoola, congratulated the new students, urging them to refrain from bad companies, while she promised that the college had arranged good facilities to enhance their academic pursuits.

At the event, Professor J.K Ayantayo and Dr Adewoye Busuyi delivered lectures on the topics entitled: “Ethics of Lifestyle” and “Personal and Environmental security Issues” respectively.

The orientation programme had in attendance the management team of the college, where new students were intimated with the operations of the college.

In another development, the provost of the institution, Mr Siji Ganiyu, was conferred with a professional award titled ‘Environmental Health Trainer and Ultimate Guide’ award by the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), South -West Zone, in appreciation of his immeasurable contribution to environmental health education and practices.

Speaking at the award ceremony held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat Ibadan, the president of the association, Mr Tope Akinwumi, described OYSCHST’s, provost, Mr Ganiyu, as a worthy ambassador of the profession who deserved the honour bestowed on him.

He noted with delight that Mr Ganiyu remained a pillar of environmental health education in the South-West and Nigeria at large.

While congratulating Mr Ganiyu on the well-deserved honour, Dr Tope Akinwumi called on other serving environmental health officers in the state to emulate the sterling qualities of the provost which stood him out among other professionals.

The provost, while dedicating the award to the state governor for creating an enabling and conducive environment for learning at the college, appreciated the association for the honour done to him, while calling on the upcoming health officers to always uphold the ethics of the profession

He also thanked the governing council members, management staff and students of college for their unflinching support.
