Oyo TMC calls for rejection of Nigeria’s breakup

THE Amir of The Muslim Congress (TMC) in Oyo State, Daud Oladosu, has called for the rejection of separatism in Nigeria, calling on those pushing the agenda to have a rethink.

Oladosu made the call at the annual state lecture of TMC with the theme ‘Insecurity and National Unity: The Nation on Trial’, held recently in Ibadan.

He contended that “in diversity lies our strength as a true nation of diverse opportunities and dynamic human and material resources.”

Explaining that the annual lecture served as a platform to provide recipe for moving the country forward, Oladosu said the discourse focused on finding the right mix on governance, leadership and political stability.

The Amir lamented that Nigeria which once “provided continental leadership in economic and international diplomacy is now groping in the dark.”

According to him, “lack of commitment by both the leaders and the citizenry to a united, stable, developed and prosperous Nigeria” had put the country on the brink of collapse, a situation which, he said, had given room for the emergence of hard-line separatists and ethnic jingoists with agitation for the balkanisation of the country.

“We must all come to the realisation that it is the wish of Almighty Allah that we dwell in the geographical expression called Nigeria as a people of a unified nation,” he said.

Also, Dr Tajudeen Yusuf of the Department of Actuarial and Management Science, University of Lagos opined that the essence of any government was to provide security and ensure the wellbeing of its citizenry.

Other speakers at the event include the deputy governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan; the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke and Ustadh Abdulrazak Abdulsalam Awayewaserere from the Voice of Nigeria (VON).
