A 39-year-old man, Isiaka Ahmed, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.
The crime, perpetrated on August 9, reportedly occurred at the suspect’s residence at Osungbade area, Molete, Ibadan.
The suspect, who hailed from Share Town in Kwara State, confessed to the crime, disclosing that he forcefully had sexual knowledge of the minor when her mother, who sells food within the neighbourhood asked her to take soup to him at home.
Confirming the suspect’s arrest, the state commandant, Dr Michael Adaralewa, said that it took the response of the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit of the command to arrest Ahmed at Popo area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area eight days after the girl’s mother reported the case.
Condemning the act, the Commandant stressed the stoppage of molestation of minors, which he described as barbaric.
Commandant Adaralewa also made an appeal to parents and guardians to always protect their children, especially the females, in order to avoid falling victim to pedophiles.
He stated further that the case would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation, enjoining the public to always furnish the civil defence corps with credible information whenever they see anything unlawful in their vicinity.
