Oyo LG election: Ibadan-born philanthropist to support Ido PDP candidates

Published by

Ibadan-born philanthropist, Dr.  Kazeem Akande has  pledged support for PDP consensus candidates in the upcoming Oyo State Local Government elections.

Akande, who is the founder, Akande Tunde’s Movement (ATM), stated this in a press statement   he personally signed on Friday, ahead of the forthcoming Local Government election in the state.

He noted that this is coming as part of his support to the Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde’s administration and agenda for the members of the local government.

The statement said, “As a partisan member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Akande showed his support to the Omi Tuntun 2.0 agenda in Ido Local Government and Oyo State at large contributing immensely to the success recorded in the community during the gubernatorial elections.”

Akande, while commenting on the forthcoming local government elections, noted that he is committed to the development of the party at both State and Local Government levels and he is ready to fully support campaign activities of the party consensual candidates for the chairmanship and councilors election in Ido Local Government and Ward 7 respectively.

He however pleaded that party leaders and decision-makers ensure that individuals that will be given the opportunity to serve in these capacities be those with the interest of the masses at heart and with credible track record.

He further emphasized his commitment to Ido Local Government and Oyo State, adding that his support would not end at supporting campaigns of the candidates alone but will fully support plans and programs that align with Peace Building, Education, and Agriculture for the development of the local government.

Akande, who is also the Assistant Registrar of ESPAM-Formation University, Benin Republic, and the Founder of Easy-Prevarsity Educational Consult, has facilitated over 1000 scholarships for students in Ido LG and Oyo State to study in Benin Republic. In addition, he has carried out exemplary projects in primary and secondary schools in Oyo State to further ensure that more people have access to affordable education in a conducive environment as we all know that Education is second to nothing. Education makes people easy to govern but impossible to deceive.

Akande promised to support candidates who emerge in Local Government elections with these scholarships and projects, and also extend the same courtesy to the Oyo State Government.

“Akande is also the peace coordinator for Rotary in Nigeria, Chairman African Institute for Justice of the Peace (AFRIIJP), Founder of Ecolerite Institute of Peace Advancement, President General Alliance of Yoruba Youth Worldwide (AYYCW), ECOWAS Youth Ambassador and Grand Patron of Agbekoya Farmer’s Association, Oyo State. These associations have a similar mission and vision which is to provide lasting peace in our societies and the world at large.

“Akande said he is ready to leverage the experience and reach of these associations to support PDP candidates at Local and State levels to ensure they record success in the area of peace building and conflict prevention.

“In addendum, the situation of food security has become a new interest of Dr. Akande Tunde Kazeem and he pledges to support agricultural initiatives of the chairman and councillor that emerge in the Ido LG and Ward 7 that concerns improving agriculture and making sure we build a community that is self-sufficient and can provide food for itself. Akande stressed that it is important that consensus candidates of the party come up with beautiful initiatives that can help us achieve these milestones in Ido LG and promises to support them.

Akande concluded that as a partisan member of the PDP, the interest of the party, which he is sure aligns with building a nation and a community where everyone prospers, comes first and he is ready to support decisions of stakeholders and party leaders.
