The Oyo State government has inaugurated the peace and security committee for the Oyo zone.
At the peak of the Ibarapa security crisis, Governor Seyi Makinde had declared that peace and security committees will be set up across zones of the state to support regular security agencies in ensuring security in the state.
The peace and security committee will comprise all local security agencies as well as non-state actors.
State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Bayo Lawal, who inaugurated the committee, tasked the committee to constantly come up with recommendations that will enable security agencies to be proactive in addressing security challenges in the state.
At the event held at Atiba Hall in Oyo East Local Government, Lawal harped on the need for synergy within the committee to engender the development of effective and efficient solutions regarding security.
Represented by Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Segun Ajekiigbe, the commissioner urged the committee not to relent in staging monthly committee meeting and constantly forward their resolutions to the governor through the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
He said the committee for the Ibarapa zone was recently inaugurated assuring that the remaining zones in the state will be inaugurated soonest.
In her remarks, the Iyaloja, Afijio local government area, Chief Balkis Ogungbile, said the setting up of the committee will help curtail issues of insecurity in the state.
She, however, urged the Governor Seyi Makinde administration to empower Amotekun for its personnel to be more efficient in its operations.
In his remarks, the immediate past Caretaker Chairman, Oyo East local government, Saheed Arowosaye averred that the peace and security committees being put in place across zones will corroborate strides of regular security agencies in guaranteeing security in the state.
