Oyo govt takes world tourism day celebrations to Ado Awaye suspended lake

Published by

The Oyo State government has continued to show interest through different allied tourism contents to pride the state as one of the unique tourism destinations in Nigeria.

This is coming as the state’s tourism apparatus deliberately decided to host this year’s fiesta of the World Tourism Day at the Ado Awaye Suspended Lake; the only natural suspended lake in the world, as the one in Colorado, USA, which was acclaimed the first was manmade.

In this regard, the community; Ado Awaye where the suspended lake is located had also through the Oba of Ado Awaye, joined force with other relevant bodies and the organised private sector, Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) with over 23 formidable associations to make the event not only a grand one, but also open the area to investment opportunities.

This step is in tandem with the dreams and aspirations of Governor Seyi Makinde’s inaugural speech which promised in part; “We will bring in new ideas and explore new initiatives. We will partner with local and foreign investors, some of whom are here with us today.

“I was drawn to politics because I saw the way the wealth meant for everyone was being siphoned by a few to enrich themselves while leaving the masses in desperate poverty and dehumanizing suffering, and our land in ruin. We have an opportunity to change this and we will.

“We have already started working on our campaign promises. In the area of investments, we promised that our administration will be pro-private investments, that we will make Oyo State the preferred investment destination in Nigeria.”

The above is evident in the recently opening of the state-of-the-art remodeling of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, which will reposition and boost sport tourism, investment and tourists drive to Oyo State.

Also the movement of the WTD celebration started last year where the fiesta was taken to Idere Hills, which also helped to give the hiking tourism site a boost in terms of tourist traffic and opening the town to domestic tourists and visitors.

This year, the Ado Awaye Suspended Lake will not only be a springboard for the state to showcase the uniqueness of the site but also boost Nigeria tourism image at positioning the suspended lake for immediate private sector driven investment.
