Oyo State House of Assembly has advocated the installation of the Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking devices on the Patrol Vehicles donated to the various Security Agencies in the state for effective service delivery.
The call was contained in a Motion read on the floor of the House on Thursday by member representing Ibadan North West State Constituency, Hon. Dawood Olalere, and co-sponsored by the leader of the House, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin.
The lawmakers submitted the devices would assist in monitoring the locations and movements of all Patrol vehicles as well the safety of officers.
In addition, the House stated that there is a need for more Patrol vehicles to be deployed at night when most crimes are usually being committed, and this will make it difficult for criminals to have their way.
The Motion read in part ” While security agencies have been making commendable efforts in curbing crimes and maintaining law and order, there is still room for improvement. The rate at which crime occurs in Oyo State remains disturbing particularly at night. Stealing, kidnapping, Armed robberies and gang violence happen despite security surveillance hence the State Government needs to introduce advance technology like the GPS.”
Hon. Olalere in one of the resolutions urged the Executive arm of Government through the State Ministry of Information and Orientation and the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS to increase public awareness about the toll-free line “615” which is available 24 hours for residents to report emergencies.
The Motion further called on Security Agencies to be more proactive in combating crimes by fully utilizing tools and equipment at their disposal, and also imbibing good maintenance culture to ensure the durability of all operational vehicles provided for them by the State Government.
