Oyetola, Akande, Falae, Omisore, others converge on Erin-Ijesha for Senator Akinfenwa’s burial

Eminent personalities from all walks of life on Saturday converged on Erin-Ijesha in Oriade local government area of Osun State for the burial ceremony of late Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, who was the national leader and chairman Board of Trustees of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD).

Dignitaries including Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola; former national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae and erstwhile deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, attended the funeral service held for Akinfenwa at Christ Anglican Church in Erin-Ijesha, the country home of the deceased.

His remains were interred immediately after the funeral service which was presided over by the Lord Bishop of Ilesa Diocese of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Right Reverend Olubayo Sowale.

Paying his tribute to the deceased during the funeral service, Oyetola who was represented by his deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi, recalled that the deceased lived a life of great service to God and humanity.

He tasked the people to be more committed to the service of God and humanity, saying “our journey in this world is temporary as everyone will give an account of his life on the judgement day.”

Oyetola, who also lauded the courage and commitment of Akinfenwa said, “the contributions of the deceased towards the development of the society from politics to the service of God and to humanity, in general, is worthy of emulation.

“We must know that our little contribution to humanity counts, that is why I want to call on us all to emulate Papa’s life and contribute in our own little way within the corners of our lives to the progress of humanity. We have no doubt that Papa Akinfenwa has built a place for himself in heaven,” Oyetola remarked.

Late Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa was a member of the Senate and minority leader who represented Osun East Senatorial District when democratic rule returned to the country between 1999 till 2003.

He was at a time Commissioner for Education in the Old Oyo State during the Late Chief Bola Ige’s regime.

He died on October 3rd 2019 after a brief illness at the age of 89 and is survived by children and grandchildren.
