AS a way of demonstrating its commitment to bringing smiles to the faces of Nigerians, the board of MTN Foundation has disclosed that about N22.7billion had been spent on different community projects in Nigeria, since the foundation was set up, 16 years ago.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi made this disclosure in Lagos, over the weekend, at the presentation of an Oligo-synthesiser equipment, donated by the Foundation to the Nigerian Medical Institute Research (NIMR).
Prince Adeluyi stated that the foundation, since inception, had thrived on working with public and private sector partners to provide solutions that alleviate some of the society’s biggest problems.
While expressing his delights that the foundation, over the years, had been able to intervene in different areas, such as: education, health, and empowerment projects, Prince Adeluyi noted that such interventions had continued to leave the much-desired impact on such beneficiaries.
“Working with public and private sector partners to provide solutions that alleviate some of our society’s biggest problems and create lasting change in communities across the country is at the heart of what we do.
“As we celebrate 20 years of operations in Nigeria, we are further motivated to implement projects of maximum impact in our communities,” he stated.
He expressed the belief that the donation of the Oligosynthesis laboratory to NIMR would go a long way in improving lives, help in the fight against the spread of COVID-19, and enhance medical research in the country.
Prince Adeluyi argued that the new lab provides the opportunity for testing, which, he added, remains critical, in the nation’s bid to slow down the spread of COVID 19 virus and mitigate its threat to lives and livelihoods.
Director-General, NIMR, Professor Babatunde Lawal Salako, commended the foundation for the gesture, adding that the facility would further enable the institute to carry out its statutory mandate.
