Our govt committed to life-saving health services ― Fayemi

Published by

Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing quality, affordable and life-saving health care services to residents of the state.

The governor who spoke on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital while launching the new Ekiti state Ambulance Service (EKSAMS) noted that citizens’ access to quality health services cannot be overemphasized, saying the government would continue to prioritize and invest in the welfare and health of the people.

Fayemi explained that the establishment of the ambulance service was critical in offering health care and responding to emergency calls across the 16 local government areas towards saving more lives and reducing disabilities in the state.

According to him, “The system architecture for this service is designed to promptly respond to emergency calls, dispatch an ambulance team from the nearest bay, safely transport patients to the nearest General or State Specialist Hospital whilst collecting and storing data for quality assurance purposes and medical audits.

“We are launching this service with four focal ambulances stationed within the three senatorial districts. These four are in addition to the already existing fleet of over 15 ambulances available across all State-owned hospitals. In the near future, we will expand the fleet and scope of service.

“The establishment of EKSAMS, nicely complements our efforts in the health sector, specifically the massive renovation of secondary care facilities and the installation of world-class equipment to improve service delivery. We are now confident that with EKSAMS, we have further strengthened the health system value chain.”

The governor commended partners; the Sustainable Development Goals, BUA Foundation and others, ” who continue to support the State’s ambition to become a frontier health service provider.”

Fayemi who assured residents of the administration’s efforts to improve health care services advised the people to take advantage of the new service and other services early and not wait till it becomes emergency.

Speaking, the Commissioner for health and human services, Dr Oyebanji Filani said the establishment of the service would help in no small measure to provide efficient and timely pre-hospital care to people with injuries and cardiovascular emergencies.

Filani stated that new workers alongside officials of the ministry would be trained and deployed to provide free medical services to victims within the first twenty-four hours of the emergency.
