Osun arithmetic favours Omisore, but….(1)

Published by

IF Senator Iyiola Omisore had won the 2014 governorship election, (at least by INEC proclamation he lost, though he always insists he won but rigged out), he would have been a ruler and not a leader. He should thank his stars he didn’t get in the wagoning mix. He would have been one of them.

Rulers are disastrous elements. They litter everywhere; our clime, our continent and the world beyond our shores. Give rulers muddy diamond and they bring it out of the fire that should ordinarily purify for greater glean, as ashes. That is how terribly destructive they are. They don’t want to be questioned. They are on the throne because they believe they should be there. The malady of rulership, immorally whacks the system with greater intensity than the affliction of sense of entitlement. Due to the conviction of I-should-not-be-here-in-the-first-place, they want and must be appreciated every second with libation from foamy gourd. Afterall, they are doing the society a favour. Aren’t they?

Worshippers mustn’t also stop the orgies because rulers see themselves as the most competent, most versatile, most productive, most desirable, best specie for the job and the one who must be obeyed. They are dozen-a-dime to locate. The exceptions to the Rulership rule, who are leaders through and through, are few and far in between. The societies have accepted the ruinous norm of those elected to serve them, becoming their lords. The anathema won’t disappear overnight, but posterity will always be kind to those who keep faith with the Article of Faith on which their coming into office was originally founded. The scoundrels of history will also have their “Yellow” spots.

Despite my unflinching support for Donald Trump, I accept his proclivity for rulership tendencies. But take or leave it, that rotund fellow is extraordinarily graced. He’s got away with too many things that would have left an ordinary mortal irretrievably devoured. But this piece of divine Accenture is just an everyday being. Even well after, he would have completed his divine assignments in the Oval office, I trust God he would not misuse grace and will stop seeing self where the Divine has definitely been standing for his misdeeds, including unforced errors.

There is a widespread feeling in Osun State that it is Omisore’s time. Many of those I know will vote for him can’t even explain why it should be him. Without doubt, however, being a veteran almost-in candidate is giving a lot of push. There is also the so-called Buhari syndrome working for him. Before you think the president stands accused of anti-candidate, the syndrome is the sentiment of favouring someone who has consistently sought a thing, by just conceding to him, at least for once.

Vote-analysis arithmetic, which doesn’t defy too much of common-sense, also favours his victory. But voting and logic aren’t Siamese in nature, even when logical voting patterns as being currently drawn and re-drawn in Osun State should make outcomes a bit predictable and votes are allowed to count, in the final analysis.

Yes, of the four highest vote-grossing blocs in the state, namely Ife, Ede, Iwo and Osogbo that are projected to deliver bloc votes to the ‘shon of the shoil in the race,’ Omisore and his Ife votes stand shoulder above others. But will that be all to the race?

(To be continued).

Tunde Irukera Vs Multichoice

History will be kind to Tunde Irukera, DG of Consumer Protection Council (CPC), regardless of the outcome of his legal challenge to the spike in DSTV rates. The full story of economic war between South-Africa and Nigeria, which is at heart of the ongoing tango, will be told in full in coming weeks.

Irukera should know this battle isn’t even a race, much more a marathon. It is a full-blown war that requires full arsenal. Nigerians have his back.

Re-Ode to Area Fada

How much I enjoyed your allegorical piece in the Sunday Tribune of 5th August entitled “Ode to Area Fada.” First, on Charly Boy, I concur with you he simply needs help. In another sense, the man is a problem adult as our teacher used to say in those days. Next, regarding the allegory, I can almost identify all the area fathers described in your second paragraph that were appointed the job of managing a swamp. Your description of the modes of operation of each of them, is so apt, even in respect of the current second calabash who when the rule book doesn’t give him room to be what he really is, still goes beyond reasonableness to act the errand-boy mentality, likewise, the loquacious Grade B thug-recruiting manager, despite his brouhaha as well as that of the self-acclaimed and egoistic afobaje who goes with the mien of the Lord of the Manor, in the sunset of the swamp. The ‘MENE, MENE, TEKEL’ part of the writing on the wall that Prophet Daniel of old interpreted to the King of Babylon, will come to pass.

Finally, your concluding statement that if Baba Adugbo should manage to secure his abete for another four years, even Tuface sef go no say something dey happen here, is ominous and foreboding. The prayer of well-meaning swamp dwellers is that may God in His infinite mercy, revamp the swamp, by clearing it of the profaning elements therein, Amen. 08060099816.
