Former governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has dismissed insinuations in some quarters that the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, abandoned governance in the state when he visited him in the United Kingdom.
He said this when he received the elected local government chairmen in the state at his Ibara Government Reservation Area in Abeokuta, on Wednesday night, that said it was unfair for some people to condemn the governor for visiting him sometimes in September and November, in the UK where he had gone to perform knee replacement surgery.
The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) commended Abiodun for building legacies that would stand the test of time in the areas of housing; good road network; health and agriculture amongst others.
He said: “I read stories on the social media that Abiodun did not hand over the affairs of the state to anyone when he travelled to the UK to visit me when I had a knee replacement surgery. He equally visited Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as well. What the governor has done to check on us is not out of place, so I wondered why some would describe that as abandoning governance in the state.
“The governor regularly monitored my state of health on phone to know how am faring. He is a caring governor. He deserves our commendation.”
The former governor said he is hale and hearty despite the pains associated with the knee replacement post-surgery.
He urged the council chairmen to be very loyal to the government of the day, saying their cooperation would help Abiodun’s administration record more successes.
The chairmen were led by their leader, Hon Tunde Gazal, who said they were at the residence of their leader and father to welcome him back home after a successful surgery.
Gazal who is the chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government commended Osoba for ensuring that the progressives retain Ogun State during the last general election.
He said they would continue to leverage on his fatherly advice, wisdom, knowledge and experience to bring about developments to their people at the grassroots.
